Ras Al Khaimah Unveils the Ultimate Hiking Challenge with HIGHLANDER Adventure 2025

The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) is excited to welcome back the HIGHLANDER Adventure, a renowned event organized by HIGHLANDER, the world’s largest international hiking association. Scheduled for 7-9 February 2025, this highly anticipated long-distance hiking challenge promises to test the endurance and spirit of hikers and adventure enthusiasts on the breathtaking trails of Jebel Jais, home to the UAE’s longest developed hiking network spanning 80km.

This year’s event offers participants more than just a physical challenge; it presents an opportunity to explore Ras Al Khaimah’s rich heritage. As hikers traverse the rugged terrain, they will encounter ancient Emirati settlements and active farms, providing a glimpse into the history and cultural diversity of the region. These trails not only highlight the natural beauty of the area but also showcase the enduring way of life that has thrived in this rocky landscape for centuries.

Building on the success of previous editions, the 2025 HIGHLANDER Adventure introduces participants to three distinct hiking formats, each offering a unique experience.

The flagship event, HIGHLANDER Pegasus, is a 40km three-day backpacking challenge running from 7-9 February. Named after the mythical winged horse and a constellation visible in the northern sky, this challenge requires hikers to carry all essential gear, including camping, hiking, and cooking equipment, as they navigate the mountainous terrain. Participants will spend their nights camping under the stars, fully immersed in the raw beauty of Ras Al Khaimah’s mountain landscape.

HIGHLANDER Orion, a 25km trek over two days from 8-9 February, is named after the prominent winter constellation visible in the northern hemisphere. This challenge also embraces the true spirit of backpacking, with participants carrying their gear and camping along the route, experiencing the serenity of the mountains by night.

New to the 2025 edition is HIGHLANDER Lyra, a 20km one-day hike set for 9 February. Inspired by the Lyre of Greek mythology and one of the smallest constellations, this format is designed for those looking to enjoy a shorter yet equally rewarding experience. Participants will complete the challenge in a single day, carrying only the essentials for a day hike, making it an excellent introduction for those new to long-distance hiking.

Throughout the event, participants will be guided by expert organizers and will have the chance to connect with a global community of adventure enthusiasts. As they journey across old settlements and active farms, hikers will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural richness and historical significance of Ras Al Khaimah.
